Facial Types for Beautician

FACIAL MANIPULATIONS

The massage movements are the most important, and the most pleasant, part of any facial.  Your touch is not so light as to be ineffective, and not so heavy as to cause tissue damage. Massage from the insertion to the origin of facial muscles.  Do not break contact once you have begun the massage process. Move from one area to another slowly and smoothly. Finish each massage movement by pausing at the pressure points and then moving smoothly to the next area.

First, apply massage cream.  Remove approximately 1 tsp from the jar with a spatula.  Warm the massage cream by working it between your fingers. Apply the cream to the face and neck.  You are now ready to begin the massage portion of the facial.

Movement 1: Up and Down on the Forehead
  1. Starting on the right side of the client’s face, use the middle and ring fingers of both hands to stroke up and down on the forehead.  Holding the left hand on the client’s left temple.  Pause and rotate with both hands.
  2. Glide both hands to the cheek in front of the ear.  Pause and rotate.
  3. Glide to the lower jaw, below the earlobe.  Pause and rotate.
  4. Glide up to the front of the ear. Pause and rotate.
  5. Glide up to the temples. Holding the right facial fingers on the right temple, glide the left hand across the forehead.
  6. Repeat the entire movements two more times.
Movement 2:  Rotate the center of the forehead.

  1. Hold the skin at the center of the forehead taut with the index and the middle fingers of the left hand.
  2. With the middle and ring fingers of the right hand, rotate upward on the muscle.
  3. Glide the right hand down to the center of the brows.
  4. Repeat two more times.
Movement 3:  Stroke the center of the forehead.

  2. With the right hand, repeat the same movement without breaking contact. Continue alternating hands and repeat three times.
Movement 4:  Criss cross at the center of the forehead.

  1. Place the middle and ring fingers of the right hand on the left eye.
  2. Cross up and over to the corner of the eyebrow of the right eye.  With the ring finger down, glide over the forehead to the temple.  Repeat with the left hand, moving from the inner corner of the right eye to the eyebrow of the left eye until both eyes have been treated three times.
Movement 5: Outline the eyes.
  1. Place the middle fingers of both hands under the eyebrows. Place the thumbs on top. Glide the middle finger across the bone while pinching the eyebrows with the thumb to the count of one – two – three – four – five.
  2. Massage very lightly under the eyes with the middle finger.
  3. At the sides of the bridge of the nose, turn the hand in and up so that the thumbs grasp the eyebrows.
  4. Repeat the entire movement, two more times.
Movement 6:  The “Headache” movement.

  1. Glide the left hand of the forehead. Place the right hand on top of the left.  Do not place the hands on top of the eyebrows.

  4. Glide to the jaw, below the earlobe. Pause and rotate.
  5. With both hands, use rotary massage up the cheeks to the temples.

  2. Glide to the center of the chest and massage out to the shoulder.
